Archery FAQs
When can I start archery with the club?
An email will be sent out to all archers detailing beginner course plans. Training will start from Mon 22nd September 2025.
Do I need to bring anything?
No, all equipment is provided.
I have never done archery, can I join?
Yes, we run beginner courses for all new archers. No experience required.

On Thursday the 22nd of January, Coach Brendan will be running an Informative session on attending Competitions, from competition formats, timings, round types, and dates for upcoming ISAA competitions.

This will be followed by a talk on the basic information needed to purchase your own equipment, this will include determining draw length, draw weight, size of bow, spine of arrows, and more.

This is a great opportunity to learn something a bit different and improve your knowledge, and hopefully start you on the path to purchasing your very first bow.

This is a great opportunity to learn the basics of bow assembly, what safety aspects to consider, and how to maintain your equipment to last.

FYI!!!: Archery Ireland term time membership required to attend Intervarsities

  • request membership of the SETU Archery club
  • purchase term time membership (€10)

€16 entry fee, includes stripe charges.

Entry fee not refundable after booking closes.

Once entry fee is paid, please email the club with the following information:

Full name

Gender option: Female/Open

Bow type: Barebow/Recurve(with sight)

If you need the use of club equipment, this must be signed out of the club no later than Thursday 5th February, and returned Monday 9th February.

Bus will leave the SETU Carlow main campus entrance at 7 am sharp, please be there 15 minutes early, a packed lunch and hydration is advised.

Strictly no camouflage or blue denim will be permitted, If you do not have a Club Jersey, a plain black top is required.

About Archery Club

Discover precision and focus in this calm but challenging sport. Archery is a thriving club at SETU Carlow,  that attracts large numbers. Each September, a beginner’s course introduces new participants to target shooting with a bow and arrow.

Archery welcomes newcomers and experienced shooters alike for skill development through regular practice and more experienced archers have the opportunity to compete at intercollege level. 

Equipment is provided and all instruction will be given by a professional coach. The club's training takes place on our Main Campus in the Sports Hall in the Barrow Centre.
